Nedarb Nagrom's Side Hustles: 'prollytired' & 'Hopefully It's Fye'

If you are a fan of today’s underground rap scene (which seems to be getting more popular everyday) then you are well aware of the name Nedarb Nagrom and the distinct characteristics of his beats that make him so well-respected in the genre.

He’s a multidimensional producer who likes to sample a lot of different kinds of music for his own beats. In a recent convo he told us he particularly likes sampling 90s-2000s emo music among other rock subgenres. He also plays some guitar of his own and is starting to incorporate that into more of his music.

A couple things that are not as well-known about Nedarb are the things he does outside of the world of underground rap: his label Prolly Tired and his funny, new food review show—Hopefully It’s Fye.

‘prollytired’ has been Nedarb’s Tumblr name for a long time, and he’s wanted to start a label of his own since high school. When he finally had the means to make that goal a reality, the name came pretty easy.

It’s a label that serves as a platform for him and his friends to drop their own, non-rap related music. Right now it’s dance music (electronic/drum&bass/house/ambient etc.) As far as the artists signed to prollytired Ned says, “no set roster but people we work with a lot are yung cortex, lederrick, abvhvn (graphic designer) and resign.” A couple other producers, absent.wav and fish rat narc, have also dropped a track through the label.

Nedarb and Yung Cortex have already played a show together under the name ‘prollytired’ and fans can expect more in the near future. The label announced their first monthly event via Twitter recently, happening August 28th.

prollytired is exclusive to Nedarb’s friends and people he really fucks with. He has high aspirations for the label, saying he wants it to be his Cash Money, the legendary rap label consisting of Birdman, Lil Wayne and others.

When Nedarb isn’t producing some of the underground’s biggest tunes, he spends his time the way a lot of us do—eating food. He recently started dropping vlog-style YouTube videos where he and his buddies review some of LA’s trendier eateries in a series titled ‘Hopefully It’s Fye.’

LA-based artist Horse Head came up with the name in episode 1, and he’s been a recurring guest-reviewer so far. Yung Cortex and ABVHVN have also been featured in addition to other friends of Nedarb, but he says he wants to get “Nick Colletti, Ghostemane, Lil Peep, Lil Tracy and everyone of my friends.”

Check out episode 1, where Horse Head thinks of the name @ about 21 seconds in.

There have been 4 episodes of Hopefully It’s Fye, but it seems to be just getting started. Ned says he basically does no planning before the episodes; he picks the restaurant the day of and the analysis is all-natural. It’s not like he’s been watching Food Network to figure out what to say.

He’s reviewed one of his favorite spots already, Gigi’s Bakery, but also likes to try places for the first time on the show. Ned tells us his favorite kind of food to eat is Jamaican as well as Cuban sandwiches, so we can expect to see these types of food being reviewed soon.

Nedarb is a complex kind of dude who is always finding ways to make his brand more recognizable and maintain an active, hilarious presence on social media. We think it’s mad funny and look forward to what he does next!
