#YoThisSlaps no. 13

SLAP's weekly list of LA's underground music that you'll want to hear:

Warm Brew - Small Victories (prod. Swiff D)

Warm Brew’s chemistry is comparable to the Showtime Lakers on this one. Each verse adds a meaningful layer to the song and the chorus is a CLASSIC. Swiff D needs major props for the beat. It’s kinda got a west coast Curren$y feel to it. Listen below:

AzChike x AzSwaye - Like A Thug

We been featuring a ton of the whole AzCult’s music lately and for good reason. Everything they’re dropping slaps, and ‘Like A Thug’ keeps the trend going. AzChike and AzSwaye link on it and deliver a song that is a little less club-friendly than most of their music, showing their ability to dabble in all kinds of hip-hop. Listen below:

Kalan.frfr - Fine Ass - (prod. Paupa)

‘Fine Ass’ is like radio music for the streets. Mad catchy, but not corny at all. Kalan.frfr is a natural songmaker who never sounds like he’s faking his style — it’s all him. Paupa delivers the perfect beat for Kalan.frfr to do his thing. This song could blow tf up. Listen below:

J-kwe$t - Network

The Tyler The Creator influence on this song is apparent, but that doesn’t take away from how good it is or how original an artist J-kwe$t is. Every aspect of his music is improving, whether it’s his vocal control, lyrics or singing. He’s become an artist you have to watch for in the LA-area. Listen below:

Savage Lue - Budokai feat. Yungkourageous

These two artists couldn’t be more different, but together the result is a bangin’ track that is guaranteed different from every rap song you’ve heard. Savage Lue’s charisma and references to shit like Super Smash Bros. and Taco Bell gives his music a sense of honesty while distancing him from a lot of other rap being made. Listen below:

Apollo Hill - Nobody

You never know what kind of song Apollo Hill is going to drop, but you always know it’s going to slap. This song is self produced, with some of the fattest 808s you’ll hear anywhere. Apollo Hill’s lyricism shines on this one, painting a sad story of regret and hopelessness. R&B and hip-hop fans alike need to hear it. Listen below:

SUBI x NATEY - Bottom Of A Bottle

This track comes off of a collaborative project from these artists that just dropped this morning called ‘The Drive Home.’ SUBI and NATEY both have mesmerizing singing voices on this song, flawlessly trading lines with ease. NATEY produced the entire tape, and they’re all top notch, but something about this beat literally gives you chills. It’s that good. Listen below:

Kleinbomb - Something Wrong feat. EyeKeem (prod. deyjan)

Both of these artists tiptoe the line between singing and rapping with their melodic use of autotune. Put them together and you get a song you’ll be singing all day. The instant chemistry between Kleinbomb and EyeKeem is undeniable. Hopefully they have more collabs in the works. Listen below:
