Our weekly list of LA's underground music that you should be listening to:
Reddish Blu - Somewhere Else (prod. Gnealz & Bugzy Mogues)
Reddish Blu is fuckin' back. After a two month hiatus from dropping new music, she blessed us with another tear-jerker this week. She links with Gnealz (prod. credit: Smokepurrp, Famous Dex, Young Pinch & more) and Bugzy Mogues for a track that can blow out your speakers and put you in your feelings at the same time. Whoever hurt Reddish Blu this bad needs to catch our hands. Listen below:
MackkRucci - So Long feat. Ackrite
This touching video can send a chill down one's spine, featuring visuals of Sean Mackk (who passed away this July, R.I.P.) while he was alive, as well as footage of what appears to be his funeral service. The song's message may be what makes this video so captivating, stressing the need to escape the street life that has consumed the lives of Sean Mackk, Rucci and Free Ackrite. This video is an amazing tribute to an artist who lost his life too soon. Good music like this makes sure his memory lives on forever. Watch below:
SUBI - Fighting For (feat. Domino, Natey, TRVCE & Ryan Vettel)
Wow, SUBI is quickly becoming one of our favorite voices to hear. This song is absolutely perfect, from the sound to the message, it's flawless. Domino delivers the only rap verse on the track and SUBI gets vocal and production support from Natey once again. TRVCE and Ryan Vettel add intruments and additional vocals that make this song a collective effort that you need to hear from these artists. Listen below:
foreign forest - fried (prod. scotty splash)
This song is fire from beginning to end. It's got a 311 - Amber sample, weed references for everyone on the stoner spectrum, and some of the best vocals we've heard from foreign forest in terms of lyrics and delivery. 'fried' could be the track that blows this multi-dimensional artist up. Listen below:
Wrry - Too Much
This song is mad catchy. Wrry handles the production and vocals on 'Too Much,' and he delivers on both. His use of autotune is abstract but not overdone, complimenting the thunderous beat he made for himself. This song slaps — play it loud. Listen below:
Joel Pe$o - Goblin
This LA-based artist seems to progress every time we hear him, and that trend continues with his newest song, 'Goblin.' Joel Pe$o is true song maker, handling the production and mixing for his music. That ability to control every part of the song allows him to establish a distinct sound that isn't being replicated anywhere. This is some of his best work. Listen below:
Mann - Fairfax & Pico (prod. J-hawk)
This is west coast rap in its purest form. Mann has been in LA his whole life and his narrative of the city is right on point. J-Hawk delivers with the perfect beat, fusing sounds associated with classic hip hop and today's hits. Listen below:
Sean Ev - Verity (prod. ITYB Productions)
'Verity' is the first original release from Hawthorne rapper Sean Ev since his last tape 'Kornblum Ave.' His hard-hitting delivery, and lyrics that manage to stunt while maintaining a sense of honesty, make him an artist to look out for. He could be something of a west coast version of G-Herbo with the raw rapping talent he possesses. Listen below:
