#YoThisSlaps no. 16

It's back, SLAP Media's weekly list of LA's underground music that you need to hear. #YoThisSlaps

SHORELINE MAFIA x STINCTEAM - Mobb Ties

Two of the LA-areas hardest hip-hop collectives out are SHORELINE MAFIA & The STINCTEAM. They’ve made bangers together in the past, so it’s no surprise to see them link on ‘Mobb Ties.’ The beat for this one isn’t your average hip-hop beat; the song is even listed as Disco. That’s not to say the song isn’t another street anthem for these young stars. It definitely has the potential to blow like some of their other music. Listen below:

Reverie - Black Hearts (video) prod. Louden

Reverie hadn’t blessed fans with new music in a while, but her hiatus ended a week ago when she dropped the ‘Black Hearts’ video. This is real hip-hop, with solid bars and crafty wordplay from Reverie as she calls out some of the world’s injustices. The video is shot in LA, with more shots of everyday Angelinos than Reverie herself. It’s a powerful visual for an incredibly intense song. Watch below:

Ka5sh - Crying In The Club prod. Yung Skrrt

Ka5sh and Yung Skrrt make one of the most unique duos we’ve heard in awhile. This is genreless music, with bits and pieces from stuff all over the spectrum. Whatever it is, we love it, and can’t get enough of Ka5sh’s punk rock vocals or Skrrt’s massive repertoire of sounds in his beats. 'Crying In The Club' is an emotional rollercoaster of a song about a miserable night in the club; something many people can relate to, but probably don't want to admit. Listen below:

Young Spaceman - Expensive (video)

Shot by WestDope, the ‘Expensive’ visual is the first release in quite a while for rapper/producer Young Spaceman. He’s got a flow that is unmatched with a cool, laidback style of rhyming that simply can’t be faked. The video has a fun, retro feel to it, with a VHS look and do-it-yourself aesthetic. We fuck with Spaceman Young and hope to hear more from him soon. Watch below:

Noviiimber - Los Atlanta (prod. Arrogant Key)

Atlanta based artist Noviiimber is an LA native, and he represents both cities in his song ‘Los Atlanta.’ It’s a cut off of his newest project, Deuce, and is definitely our favorite track on it. Noviiimber is an auto-tune user who knows exactly what notes compliment his sound, and the hook on this particular track is top-notch. We can’t stop slappin it. Listen below:

Oddly Shrugs - Lounging In My Hell prod. Zayce Hundo

Is it metal? Maybe hip-hop? We couldn’t tell you, but we fuck with it. Oddly Shrugs makes wildly enticing music, mixing mumbled vocals with intense screams. Produced by Zayce Hundo, ‘Lounging In My Hell’ is a track that really sets Oddly Shrugs apart from other artists making music in the grey area between rock and rap.

Jordan Ward - LaLaLand (prod. Ru AREYOU)

Wow, this song is a little over two weeks old but it is way too good to be left off this week’s list. Jordan Ward is a rapper/singer from St. Louis who is flying way below the radar considering how dope his music is. ‘LaLaLand’ is a groovy song produced by Ru AREYOU about Ward’s move to LA and the journey that lies ahead. Listen below:

Ray Darko - Barcode

Ray Darko is an exceptional lyricist who mixes it up in his new song ‘Barcode.’ Melodic vocals and light autotune use on this track show that he isn’t a one-trick artist. This song knocks, and he doesn’t sacrifice any lyrical quality despite playing with his vocals. We’re rockin’ with this one and are looking forward to more.

That's it for this week! Tune in next week for another list of 8 underground songs that you need to hear on #YoThisSlaps. Submit music to our DM's or email us @ slapmediala@gmail.com
