Huey Briss - Black Wax (album)

Huey Briss just dropped off his first full project of 2018, Black Wax produced by Niko Beats. It's an expansive release from the Long Beach artist; he's always been outstanding lyrically, but this is a whole new monster. Each of the seven songs is perfectly crafted, from Niko's intoxicating production to the calculated manor in which Briss lays down his raps. He sounds wise beyond his years, dropping facts about life in the streets, but more importantly - how to make it out while staying sane. That seems to be an underlying theme of the project, to not depend on or glorify life in the streets. In 'Less / More' Briss says "My gun can end lives, but my voice can birth." While this may not make for viral music, and it may not be something that gets played in any clubs - it's highly thought provoking and pushes a positive message for listeners of any age. Black Wax is more of an experience than a lot of music you hear from rappers today. Listen to it front to back and you'll feel more complete, like you accomplished something. Listen below:
