Garren - Normal EP (review)

The Normal EP by the harmonious Compton resident, Garren, weaves and lures you with every track. On a first listen, sultry tones & harmonies resonate as the artist tends, acknowledges and sympathizes with the struggles of good women who have been put through the throes of life; looking for more than the status quo average fish in the pond, in the opening track ‘Conversation’.

Quickly following, title track ‘Normal’ stays in pocket as he touches on the topic of morality. “I respect that you have yours… I respect that you have morals…” these words echo; Garren uses these subjects to highlight the rarity of seeing a woman from his environment behaving that way while the “normal females” are travelling other avenues. Positive sentiments of this track send a strong message: Ladies, strive to be great. Don’t sell yourself by any means to get there. ”Cause that really ain’t that normal.”

Standout track ‘Misunderstood’ tells the real story of those coming from and growing up in the Los Angeles area. Getting by, by any means necessary. Drastic measures must be taken to survive. Sometimes young men see no way out but a bad way and must decide on how they’re going to able to survive. Young girls, standing out in the blazing heat, freezing winter, the pouring rains, using their bodies to provide ends meet and be alive. The track alone holds powerful undertones, coupled with its video, its drives the message home loud and clear.

7 tracks. 22 minutes. ‘Normal EP’ by Garren shares a positive message and discards the bad the traits of normalcy in 2018. Press play and enjoy the high caliber of Compton RnB, ‘Normal by Garren’. Listen below:
