Roddy Ricch - Be 4 Tha Fame EP
Roddy Ricch just dropped off his first new music of the year with a 4-track EP entitled Be 4 Tha Fame. It's a short project, but in the digital streaming age of music, that's kind of the way artists have to package their music. Short & to the point. His progress is evident, with an even more refined sound to his drawn out auto tune and rapid flow. It's getting harder to compare him to other artists. The last time I wrote on Roddy, I said his sound contained elements of NBA Youngboy & Young Thug, and while those elements are still there -- he's sounding more and more like himself rather than an artist figuring out his sound. A feature from Inglewood rapper Skeme is a pleasant surprise, and the veteran rapper actually seems to allow his own sound to be influenced by the young Roddy Ricch, with auto tune and melodies characterizing his verse rather than the bars that his fans may be used to hearing. Not a bad contribution at all, but definitely an evolution from the artist that he once was.
'Be 4 Tha Fame' is a timely reminder that Roddy Ricch is one of the most talented artists doing it right now, even in a highly competitive pool of rappers coming out of Compton. Listen below:
