Kalan.frfr - Hurt EP prod. WestKillinIt

Kalan.frfr dropped off his first full-length project last night with his Hurt EP. It's executive produced by WestKillinIt, who seems to have a Drake & 40 type relationship with Kalan when it comes to their chemistry on songs. The project takes you through a break up, each song highlighting a different moment or emotion in the process.
Kalan's tapping into his darker side with this project. It's not the fun, high-energy hits that we've gotten in the past. Instead, he's opening up in a way that is relatable and emotional, without ever getting corny like a lot of the other music that tries to be this relationship-centered. At a session last month, he told me that this project was all about one specific split between him and a girl, and that the songs just kind of poured right out of him when he made them all. You hear that kind of passion in each song. He's speaking to her directly at almost all times, refusing to accept that she's gone for good.

The seven song Hurt EP takes you through a break up at every stage. There's the initial frustration described in 'About Us,' then the regret and guilt described in records like 'Cry To Me' & 'I Ain't Shit.' As the tape winds down, there seems to be some closure or at least acceptance that it may really be done in 'Letter To Your Next.' The Hurt EP is an example of two artists in their zone and on the same page when it comes to the direction of the project as a whole. Kalan.frfr and WestKillinIt locked in and created a classic. This is that "scrolling through old pictures of my ex" kinda music, so open up those secret folders and get ready to hurt. Listen below:
