JP Cali Smoov - Tha First Meal (mixtape)

JP Cali Smoov, an LA rapper who is more known for battle raps in the past, just dropped off his first full project as an in-the-booth artist. Tha First Meal is a 10-track mixtape hosted by Snoop Dogg, equipped with nonstop energy and intricate wordplay from JP. He does an excellent job of paying homage to West Coast legends, while still finding a way to make music that doesn't sound outdated or washed. JP's style is a lot more "real rap" than some other acts in LA right now, but he has refined his craft to the point that he can give you quality lyrics while making songs that you can slap at a party or in the whip with your friends. Production and mixing from BiggBoo set the tone for a project that seriously bangs with an updated DJ Mustard kind of party energy. Each beat hits as hard as the last, and the vocals are crisp at every moment. For features, JP taps in with a number of LA's dopest up and comers including Almighty Suspect, Ketchy The Great & more. For a debut project, Tha First Meal is something to be proud of.
