One of the city's best pure rappers Ryan MC is back on SLAP with a new project, Get Rich Or Die Crippin. The Long Beach native delivers with at-your-neck aggression and lyrics that hit home for anybody who is familiar with the struggles of a life in the trenches. His cold-hearted approach to rap can be a lot to process at times. His brutal honesty is almost shocking at times as he discusses what it's like to have to grind for every dollar in your pocket.
As the title implies, Get Rich Or Die Crippin contains a lot of talk about the gang that Ryan MC calls his family, but the project is much more than just gang music. Woven into the street references are real life lessons that anybody can relate to.
Nipsey Hussle comes to mind when listening, not because of anything gang related or because they make similar sounding music, but because Ryan MC is able to internalize the hard life he's lived and make music that anybody with a struggle can relate to. You don't need to be in a gang to get it.
