Rucci - El Perro (mixtape)

After a week long, timeline flooding campaign from Rucci and his crew - El Perro is here. We're always looking forward to new music from the Dawg, but something about this release seemed to be more important. The way Rucci has been talking about the project made it seem as if El Perro was going to be the release that really launches his career.

After listening front to back one time, it's an easy call to say that this is his most complete body of work yet. It's ruggedly polished, if that makes sense? Rucci is always raw and unfiltered, but he's packaging that authenticity in a way that is calculated and easy to consume.

El Perro puts all of Rucci on full display. Not just the aggressive gangster that was present on Dawgystyle, but also a more vulnerable, honest young man who wants to talk about everything on his mind - not just what sounds cool.

There's a number of party tracks and shit to get LA strip clubs jumping, but a deeper message is found on tracks like 'Wishin on A Star' & 'Bodak Rucci.'

Rucci is showing the ability to speak to his hood, without ONLY speaking to his hood. It's music about the life he and his Inglewood family have lived, but it's shit that you can relate to any situation, and that's why he's able to win over such a diverse group of fans. BassSquad is in full force on the project, with appearances from BossMann, BassSquadBlackk & KingRikoX. AzChike and Wardy also tap in with contributions, adding to an already wide range of sounds on El Perro.

Production is smacking on each track, handled by JTP, Jooseppi, Meez, Louie Ji, Mike Almighty, Romo, Drum Dummie & HoodBeatz. These are names that aren't normally associated with the sounds of the New LA, but Rucci can make a hit with anybody, and would rather keep everything within his circle. As always, MixedByCrook ensures that the project is as crisp as can be, giving Rucci's vocals an added element of power and attitude. El Perro is Rucci inserting himself into the narrative of "next to blow" out of LA. While some other names have been taking off recently, he seems poised to quickly catch up, and perhaps have an easier time winning over fans beyond the west coast, thanks to his versatility.
