#YoThisSlaps no. 6

Our weekly list of LA music you'll be happy we found:
EPICMUSTDIE - STAINLESS prod. ANTDAWG (video)
This video is mad creative and extremely high quality for an underground artist. It’s got a mini Benz, a pit bull, ladies in maid fits and EPIC even gets a haircut towards the end. Sounds crazy because it is crazy… but it works. Props to Eric Nelson for putting together such a nice visual. Watch below:
Akira The Don - H I R A E T H
We haven’t been showing enough love to producers on #YoThisSlaps but we’re changing that this week, starting with this new track by Akira The Don. He’s a DJ based in Hollywood, but he can also produce a smooth, lofi hip hop song. The synths are what really make this song for us, but there’s a ton of different sounds and samples blended into it. Drop a comment if you know what the samples are from because we have no clue. Listen below:
Yung Cortex - feelin u (via prolly tired)
Cortex is a crazy talented producer/singer who never shies away from testing the limits of his music. We’re starting to think he may be able to make almost anything. ‘Feelin u’ is his second release through prolly tired—a producing label started by Nedarb Nagrom. It’s a groovy, infectious dance track with Alicia Keys samples and some perfectly placed stringed instruments. Don’t sleep on prolly tired, especially not Yung Cortex. Listen below:
Demrick - Clouded prod. The Makerz
Ahh… traditional, lyrical hip hop is still being made in LA. We love all the other stuff too, but it’s nice to see an OG like Demrick (a protegee of Cypress Hill’s B-Real and Xzibit) continue to find the motivation to drop facts on us every now and then. The Philadelphia native is signed to Dizzy Wright’s label ‘Still Movin’ and currently lives in LA.
Onji - Friends feat. Quice London
Onji is an insanely dope singer coming out of LA. This is only his fourth song released and the second one that he self produced. He links with Quice London who delivers a solid verse, but Onji really steals the show with his ability to sound just as lonely as his lyrics. Listen below:
Haikujah - Decision prod. SLGHTWRK SOUND
This mysterious artist started dropping songs a little less than a year ago, and we still haven't seen his face. Haikujah's tracks are all produced by SLGHTWRK SOUND, so the beats are always active. He can style on a track with the best of them, constantly mixing up his flows and cadences. This one just dropped today… You’re going to want to play it loud. Listen below:
Sleeps - FINISHED prod. Savior
Any kind of music is fair game for this list as long as it’s new, it slaps and it has a connection to LA. This one comes from Sleeps, a member of the LA-based collective UNDERCITY SOUNDS. It’s a fast paced track that honestly sounds more punk rock than anything else, but it definitely has hip hop influences too. Might not be for everybody, but we dig the originality. Listen below:
