cam, the chef - An Emotional Minefield (demos)

Cam, the chef is a bedroom artist. His songs are reserved & introspective yet explore galaxies worth of sounds. The introduction feels like one, with a simple bass line whose repetition begins to sound like a dream. Cam has subtle talents like that, he knows where the track can keep building. Each song is distinct from the next--a fact that becomes apparent within the first two songs as look what u did leads with a distorted chord progression and vocals.

On both 'Look What U Did' and 'Fishscales', cam puts his vocals through both distortion and autotune, but the melody remains the most interesting part. The energy beyond that lands us back in whats becoming a notably 'cosmic' style from Cam, a word I used to describe the single 'Angelite' of this project on a previous review. 'Why Are They Gentrifying Crenshaw' also falls into this category heavily, with the title being enough to lead u into the contemplative state this song leaves you in. Cam has so much variety and a song like 'Backwards Clothes' is a perfect example of this, with a variably percussive track that Cam gives a hypnotic verse over.

Full disclosure, this project was sent our way in the middle of the night, and this sounds like the aural representation of what that state where you lay in bed trying to convince yourself you're falling asleep might sound like: anxiety mixed with impending bliss. Listen below:
