Kee Riche$ is one of Compton’s hardest working artists, and his newest song is a testament to his work ethic. Money is the motive for this star in the making; he’s chasing paper above anything else. JHawk provides yet another quality beat - something we’ve come to expect from the veteran producer. Listen below:
Jooba Loc - Famous Gangbanger (Video)
Gangsta rap isn’t dead; it’s just evolved. Jooba Loc is an artist out of Long Beach making sure that people living that life still have a genuine voice in the industry. His energy is both infectious and nonstop, and his new video shows us he isn’t lying about a single word he speaks. Watch below:
foreign forest - surgery (prod. reaper)
This is already our 3rd time featuring foreign forest, and it’s because he’s sick as hell. His blend of alternative rock and hip hop is amazing, and he keeps getting better at it. This may be our favorite forest track yet. Listen below:
Rola - Escape
This song is damn near perfect. Rola’s production and vocals blend together seamlessly. He kind of sounds like a souped up Post Malone, but there’s something about his sound that makes him a one of a kind artist. Stay on the lookout because this Atlanta native is one of the most talented musicians living in LA. Listen below:
$teven Cannon - FUND$ (Video) prod. Ben Great and DJ FU
$teven Cannon is a young rapper bridging the gap between LA and Ohio. He comes correct on this track as he outlines why ‘You don’t wanna come to the trap’ and why he’s one of hip hop’s best kept secrets… for now. Watch below:
AWAY - Sleepwalker ft. London Thor (Video)
Normally on #YoThisSlaps we tend to focus on hip hop, but this electronic producer’s newest video is way too creative to leave off of any LA music list. Cinematography and symbolism run high in this fast paced visual for a mind blowing track.
LJ Hunter - Lonzo ft. Rawgi (prod. Regime Beats)
We usually stick to music that’s a month old or less, but in honor of the Lakers summer league title (we know, it’s not that big a deal… but who cares) we’re featuring this Laker anthem about their new, young star Lonzo Ball. Listen below:
Jarred Illiad - They Don’t Wanna Know
This LA rapper is unrelenting while telling his story. His style compares to Jeezy a bit, but his flow is all over the place in this track. 'They Don’t Wanna Know' is a straight up banger. Listen below:
Merlaku Ra - secure the bag ft. alecBe
This collab comes off of Merlaku Ra’s new EP titled MIDAS. Him and alecBe link up for a complex song with trippy production and thought provoking bars throughout. Real hip-hop is still alive and well in LA; these dudes are making sure of it. Listen below:
Lucky - Wait on Me (Album)
This is the first full project from Lucky, a 17-year-old rapper. He’s a bit raw right now, but the potential is there. Check him out and stay on the lookout for new music from this young artist. Listen below:
